Where Generations of Adventure Began
The story of Wehinahpay Mountain Camp began in 1926, when leaders of the Eastern New Mexico Council sought a permanent mountain retreat where Scouts could experience the outdoors. They discovered a promising location in Potato Canyon, approximately 12 miles west of Weed, New Mexico, in the Sacramento Mountains. The council purchased an initial 40 acres, followed by an additional 120 acres for $1,500. The property included a natural spring that provided a reliable water source for the camp.
Development moved quickly, and by the summer of 1927, Wehinahpay welcomed its first Scouts. Those early years were simple, with wood-burning stoves, no electricity or refrigeration, and ice-cold punch made from spring water.
Today, Wehinahpay Mountain Camp sits at an elevation of more than 8,500 feet, nestled among the towering pines of the Sacramento Mountains. What began as a rustic mountain campsite has grown into a year-round destination for Scouting adventures, offering summer camp programs, merit badge opportunities, leadership training, troop outings, and family getaways. With accommodations ranging from traditional camping to cabins and lodges, Wehinahpay continues to provide opportunities for Scouts and visitors to explore the outdoors, develop new skills, and create lifelong memories.
As Wehinahpay prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2027, the camp continues to build on nearly a century of tradition while creating new opportunities for generations to come—Keeping Our Honor Bright for a Century.

The summer of 2027 marks 100 years of Scouting adventures at Wehinahpay Mountain Camp, and we're pulling out all the stops to make this historic season one to remember! Exciting improvements are underway throughout camp, from restoring beloved program areas to upgrading facilities, and we're planning some special surprises and activities to celebrate our centennial summer. This isn't just another summer at camp. It's your chance to become part of Wehinahpay history!

We recommend a payment schedule of 25% installments each month from January through April. This helps families spread out the cost while ensuring camp gear arrives on time and our staff can prepare an incredible experience for everyone.
